Vector File
What are two export types SketchUp supports?
collection of points, lines, and shapes which combine to create a digital image. A vector image has no resolution restrictions, so you can scale the image to any size without any loss of quality.
PDF: The Portable Document Format or PDF, is a widely used format for printed and electronic documents. PDF is a native Adobe file format, and can be viewed using Adobe Reader. Numerous applications can open the PDF file format.
EPS: Encapsulated Postscript or EPS, is a similar format used for vector graphics on several different application counterparts. EPS is a more universal file format.
Raster File (image file)
Types?
a finite number of color pixels combined to create an image. A raster image does have resolution restrictions, so when scaled up or down, there will be a loss in quality called pixelation.
Types:
JPEG, BMP, TIFF, PSD, PNG
Define: JPEG
The Joint Photographic Experts Group or JPEG file format is one of the most commonly used on the web, it features a lossy compression algorithm that can be calibrated to balance the image quality and file size. JPEG compression can reduce file size to a fraction of other formats, which is useful when you need to email an image or share it on a website.
Define: BMP
Bitmap is an uncompressed file format that was created specifically for the Microsoft Windows operating system, used for viewing wallpaper. BMP is not recommended for archiving, web, or email due to its large file size.
Define: TIFF
Tagged Image File Format holds a lot of image data and is primarily used for high-resolution printing. These file formats tend to be very large.
Define: PSD
The PSD file type is native to Adobe Photoshop, which stands for Photoshop Document. A PSD is very large in size. It is recommended to export a PSD file to a JPG or PNG format before importing, to improve SketchUp’s performance.
Define: PNG
Portable Network Graphics or PNG, is a raster output file type. It is a commonly-used compressed raster file for web. PNGs have the distinction of retaining a high level of image quality and are capable of producing transparency on the web. PNGs tend to be larger in file size than their JPG counterparts.
When organizing files and folders, the following considerations should be taken:
1) Hierarchy
2) Naming conventions
3) Backup and storage
4) Temporary folders, archive folders, and deletion methods
5) Collaboration and sharing methods
6) Resource folders
7) How different file types are created and consumed by you and your organization
8) File and folder permissions and access control
